Firm
History
Stephen J. Nolan was admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland
in June, 1977. For a brief period, he worked as an associate for
the Baltimore law firm of Fedder and Garten, P.A. In order to pursue
his interest in trial practice, Steve returned in 1977 to the Towson
law firm of Nolan, Plumhoff & Williams (NPW), a general practice
law firm. NPW was founded in 1969 by his father, James D. Nolan,
together with J. Earle Plumhoff and Newton A. Williams. In 1979,
Steve was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia.
In 1980, James D. Nolan retired from his law practice at NPW to
accept the position of Corporate President of Blue Shield of Maryland.
Beginning in the 1980s at NPW, Steve began to concentrate his practice
by representing individuals with serious personal injuries and surviving
family members with wrongful death claims. With experience gained
from managing complex asbestos property damage litigation on behalf
of Baltimore Count and Anne Arundel County government and school
boards, Steve extended his litigation services to include business
owners who suffered economic losses due to building contamination
from asbestos and other toxins.
Following the death of the firm’s President, J. Earle Plumhoff,
in December 1988, Steve was elected President of NPW and served
in that capacity for 14 years. With as many as 16 lawyers, NPW was
the professional home of such distinguished former members as the
Honorable Robert E. Cahill, Sr., the Honorable Robert E. Cahill,
Jr., Ralph E. Dietz and Stephen M. Schenning.
Responding to a personal and professional desire to develop a law
firm devoted primarily to plaintiffs trial practice and complex
business litigation, Steve moved his practice on February 1, 2003,
to Court Towers, Suite 350, 210 West Pennsylvania Avenue, directly
opposite the Circuit Court for Baltimore County located in Towson,
Maryland.
On February 7, 2003, James D. Nolan became Of Counsel to Stephen
