On June 14, 2003, the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland awarded Steve Nolan the 2003 Maryland Pro Bono Service Lee A. Caplan Award for his "…dedication to providing equal access to justice to all citizens of Maryland." Chief Judge Robert M. Bell of the Court of Appeals of Maryland presented the award to Steve at the Maryland State Bar Association's Annual Meeting in Ocean City, Maryland.
On May 1, 2003, the Baltimore County Bar Association presented Steve with the Association's 2003 Pro Bono Award at Law Day Ceremonies held in the County Courts Building Plaza. This year's event was attended by Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele and the Circuit Court Bench.
In April, 2003, Steve was one of three lawyers elected by Baltimore County Attorneys to serve a two-year term on the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association. This will be Steve's third term on the MSBA's governing body.
On February 10, 2003, the Law Offices of Stephen J. Nolan, Chartered,
announced that James D. Nolan had become Of Counsel to the firm.
As President of the Baltimore County Bar Association, Steve presided
at the 81st Annual Baltimore County Bar Banquet. Approximately 700
lawyers, judges and elected officials attended this black-tie event
at Martin’s West in Baltimore.
On January 13, 2003, Steve participated in a panel discussion
hosted by the Young Lawyers Committee of the Maryland State Bar
Association. The program held at historic Westminster Hall in Baltimore
examined the pros and cons of the existing system of contested elections
for Maryland Circuit Court judges.
On Sunday, January 12, 2003, Steve appeared as a guest on WJZ-TV’s
On Time program hosted by Kai Jackson. Together with Greg Countess,
Esquire of the Legal Aid Bureau of Maryland, Steve stressed the
importance of the Baltimore County Bar Association’s innovative
Take 2 program designed to raise funds for the Legal Aid Bureau
and other community-based organizations.
On December 17, 2002, Steve Nolan was invited by the Court of
Appeals of Maryland to move the admission of approximately eighty
new candidates to the Maryland Bar. Steve was privileged to address
the seven member Court, the new admittees and their families and
friends.
